We had the pleasure to interview 3DX artist and adult-oriented writer Elyria Steele. She told us how she got started in the world of 3DX, how she fell in love with the futanari sub-genre, and who is her best girl among all her video game fanarts! Here’s the full interview for you to check out.

Frideld: You have written a good number of ebooks, many of which feature futa characters. What draws you towards the futa genre?

Elyria Steele: I really sort of lucked into the genre near the beginning of doing all this, because I thought it would be an interesting angle to write a short story on.  I had wanted to write stories that leaned into the fantastical and really had only the slightest inkling of what a hermaphrodite was, so I really wrote it as “what would it have been like for me, if I’d had grown up with both genitalia”.   After I published Futa Sleepover Surprise! it didn’t take long for it to outsell everything I’d published so far, and realized I may be on to something. In between each book in the series I would create pictures of scenes from the previous book and publish them online to try and direct readers to my stories.  I really got a huge response to those pieces which, ultimately, is what made me decide to focus on futanari in my art.

F: What motivated you to become a 3DX artist? Can you cite your inspirations?

ES: When I started I was solely looking for a way to get cover art for my ebooks.  With the extra time I had at home as a stay at home mom, I decided to write adult short stories and publish them online.

I love writing and the adult angle really made it more exciting to do!  Not to mention I figured it would be an easier sub-genre to break into (boy was I wrong there!)  So, I nearly settled on the generic clip-art style artwork they offer on Amazon when I found Daz!  I’ve been an aspiring artist for much of my life, but either because I didn’t have the time or didn’t enjoy the inconvenience of the different physical mediums I never really pursued it.  So, finding 3DX was perfect!

At the beginning I was publishing my original artwork online as a way of promoting my ebooks.  Very quickly I realized my artwork was much more popular than my writing, and decided to really put my focus on it instead. I’m coming up on my 2 year anniversary of starting all this – I can’t believe it!

F: What do you like the most about being a 3DX artist?

ES: I’m so incredibly lucky to be as well received as I am! The feedback I get from my fans, and hearing about the pleasure and enjoyment my art brings them, is what really gets me excited to keep at it!

F: Do you follow other 3DX artists closely? Would you like to give them a shoutout?

ES: Not really closely, no. I know there are some fantastic artists out there, but I try not to look at what others are doing too much, because I’m worried about subconsciously borrowing ideas.

F: Which hardware and software do you use for work?

ES: I use Daz and render in Iray. Post work is done in Photoshop.

F: How would you describe your art?

ES: Hmm, how about “adult fetishist sci-fi/fantasy with a proclivity towards futanari”?

F: You have a variety of OC’s in your gallery. From where do you draw your inspiration to create them? And do you have a favourite one?

ES: I really love so many of them!  Mostly the ones that I’ve put a lot of early effort into writing their stories. If I had to pick one though, it would most likely be Phaedra Stormsong from my novella The Barbarian Queen. Ironically, canonically she’s not even a futa (though I have done some futa pictures of her)!

F: Also, what’s your favourite fiction character you have done a piece on?

ES: Hands down 2B from the Nier: Automata video game.  She really just drips (sometimes literally) with sexiness and strength!

F: Which projects are in your pipeline? What can our audience expect to see from you in the upcoming months?

ES: Commissions really keep me busy.  Every month on my Patreon I hold polls to either create a scene with characters I’ve done before, or to create a new character all together.  On top of that, I’m trying to publish new pics (often with variants) 5 times a week.
